After successful cinematic adaptations of Semi Shigure & Yamazakura, Yamazakura writers Hasegawa Yasuo & Iida Kenzaburo bring another Fujisawa Shohei "e; Unisaka Han Daizen"e; story to the silver screen with Hana no Ato. Fujisawa, who also wrote the original novels of Yamada Yojis "e; Samurai Trilogy"e;, created the fictional Unisaka area for a series of stories about the lives of the people there. Directed by Nakanishi Kenji ( The Blue Bird), the focus is shifted this time from the world of honorable samurais to a doomed love affair starring rising star actress Kitagawa Keiko (in her first period role) & television personality/ballet dancer Miyao Shuntaro as the star-crossed lovers.
Ito (Kitagawa Keiko) is the daughter of a respected clan official in Unisaka. One say, she encounters low-ranked samurai Magoshiro (Miyao Shuntaro) & challenges him to a sparring match. From there, the two develop a quiet relationship. However, the two struggle to defy the obstacles that prevent them from being together, from their social statuses to their respective arranged marriages.
