In the final years of the Qin dynasty, China is in complete chaos, & whoever takes control of the fallen Qin capital Xianyang will effectively ascend the throne to be the new Emperor. Western Chus warrior king Xiang Yu is the most prominent candidate to rise to power, while his sworn brother Liu Bang has somewhat reluctantly become another warlord. Although Liu Bangs Han army reaches Xianyang first, he knows that he is no match for the powerful Xiang Yu, so he prudently retreats & pledges allegiance to him.
