The Inspired Island, a series of six documentaries about eminent Taiwan literary figures, drew great praise in 2011. The acclaimed series returns with seven more films about prominent Taiwan & Hong Kong writers in its second installment, The Inspired Island II.
In 1959, Taiwan poet Lo Fu began writing his representative Death of a Stone Cell while serving in the army on Kinmen Isl&. The lauded surrealist long poem would upturn the literary world & inspire writers for generations to come. In 2000, he again opened a new chapter in modern Chinese poetry with the 3, 000-line Driftwood. Using the first ten stanzas of Death of a Stone Cell to form the films structure, River Without Banks explores Lo Fus life of "e;poetry & war"e; from the stone cells of Kinmens tunnels to his later years in Canada. The film is directed by Wang Wan Jo, who served as a producer on the first The Inspired Island series Port of Mists & an assistant director & editor on The Coming of Tulku.
This edition comes with the film on Blu-ray & DVD, a book about Lo Fu & 76 minutes of special features.
