Japans most famous long-haired ghost Sadako haunts screens again in 2019 in a new namesake film! While the terrifying character recently appeared in Hanabusa Tsutomus Sadako 3D series & Shiraishi Kojis Sadako vs Kayako, the 2019 Sadako is helmed by Nakata Hideo, the director of the original 1998 Ring that launched the J-horror phenomenon. The new Sadako is based on Suzuki Kojis 2013 novel Tide which depicts the origin of the notorious spirit. Sadako features a screenplay by Sugihara Noriaki who also worked on Sadako 3D 2.
Hospital psychologist Akikawa Mayu (Ikeda Elaiza) is in charge of treating a young girl (Himejima Himeka) suffering from amnesia. She gradually uncovers the mysterious past of the girl whose mother (Tomosaka Rie) died in a fire. Meanwhile, Mayus irresponsible You Tuber brother Kazuma (Shimizu Hiroya) inadvertently invokes Sadakos curse while hes shooting a video.
