Nominated for ten awards at the 39th Japan Academy Prize including Picture of the Year, 125 Years Memory was produced to commemorate 125 years of friendly relations between Japan & Turkey. Directed by Tanaka Mitsutoshi ( Ask This of Rikyuu), the Japan-Turkey co-production depicts two incidents a century apart that tied the two countries together. In 1890, a Turkish warship encounters disaster at sea, & the crew goes overboard off the coast of Kushimoto in western Japan. The residents of Kushimoto go to great lengths to save the Turkish sailors. In 1985 during the Iran-Iraq War, hundreds of Japanese nationals are stranded in Iran without recourse from their own government. Turkey helps to evacuate the Japanese nationals, placing them on the first Turkish plane out of Tehran.
