A woman living at rock bottom boxes her way out of her emotional slump in 100 Yen Love, the new film from Unsung Hero director Take Masaharu. Ando Sakura (0.5 mm, Penance) stars as Ichiko, a 32-year-old unemployed slacker who is kicked out of the family home & forced to find work at a 100-yen store to survive. She eventually falls in love with a local boxer (Arai Hirofumi), who treats her with an indifferent, cold attitude. When a shocking event happens to Ichiko, she finally decides to pull herself out of her slump & pick up boxing.
In a stunning transformation, Ando seamlessly adapts into both sides of her character the out-of-shape slacker & the amateur boxer. One of the most unique Japanese sport films in recent years, the dark comedy also won the top prize in the Japanese Splash section of the 2014 Tokyo International Film Festival.
