Every family has its secrets, but they cant remain secrets forever. Director Pang Ho Cheung explores the complex dynamics of a Hong Kong family in Aberdeen, one of the Hong Kong filmmakers most personal projects of his career. Featuring a star-studded cast, the ambitious family drama stars Louis Koo ( The White Storm), Gigi Leung ( The Monkey King), Miriam Yeung ( Love in a Puff), Eric Tsang ( Horseplay) & Ng Man Tat ( Shaolin Soccer) as members of a family that is on the verge of being destroyed by secrets from the past. Five years in the making, Aberdeen was the opening film of both the 2014 Hong Kong International Film Festival & the 2014 Udine Far East Film Festival.
On the surface, the Cheng family seems like a normal middle-class family, but each member is dealing with difficult issues. Tao (Louis Koo) is one of Hong Kongs most successful celebrity cram school tutors. His wife Ceci (Gigi Leung) is a model whose career has been on a downward slope because of her age, & hes worried that their daughter Chloe may grow up being discriminated against because of her average looks. Meanwhile, Taos older sister Ching (Miriam Yeung) cant get over that her late mother may still resent her from beyond the grave, as her doctor husband Yau (Eric Tsang) indulges in an extramarital affair with his clinics young nurse (Jessica Choi). To make things worse, Tao refuses to acknowledge the relationship between his father (Ng Man Tat) & nightclub girl Ta (Carrie Ng). As the conflicts pile up, the secrets they thought they have forgotten threaten to resurface.
