Produced by Stanley Kwan & Wong Kar Wais Jet Tone Films, Miao Miao gently explores the trials of young love & lonely longing. A wistful foray into first love, angsty friendship, & confused sexuality, this beautifully lensed coming-of-age romance drama fits in perfectly with Taiwan youth films like Blue Gate Crossing & Eternal Summer. Starring as titular heroine Miao Miao, Alice Ke Jia Yan from Do Over forms a triangle with Golden Horse-nominated actress Sandrine Pinna ( Candy Rain) & acclaimed actor Fan Chih Wei ( The Best of Times, Crystal Boys), appearing in his first Taiwan film in six years. Though this is the first feature film by Cheng Hsiao Tse, Miao Miao proves to be a remarkably polished debut for the young director, who is supported by some of the industrys best names including Wong Kar Wai regular William Cheung Suk Ping, cinematographer Kwan Pun Leung ( The Postmodern Life of My Aunt), & score composer Cin Cin Lee ( Island Etude).
Struggling to adjust to her new life in Taipei, introverted high school girl Miao Miao (Ke Jia Yan) opens up after meeting outgoing classmate Xiao Ai (Sandrine Pinna) who becomes increasingly enamoured with her new friend. Unaware of Xiao Ais confused feelings for her, Miao Miao falls for brooding CD shop owner Chen Fei (Fan Chih Wei), who seems determined to block out the world with a pair of headphones.
