INNOVATIVE TRADITION The Flanders range of base layers are inspired by the racers who compete during the Spring classics, the tough riders of the sport. Castelli pulled out all the stops to make what we would consider is the ideal base layer for mild- to cool-weather cycling. The focus is on keeping you dry, so they worked with multidenier polyester that offers minimal moisture absorption combined with mechanical wicking to move moisture away from your skin. The main body uses a 3D rib-knit structure for exceptional stretch, but with channels that hold the fabric off your skin. This base layer uses the cut & flat-lock stitching of Catellis Flanders base layer, but with very fine 18-gauge merino wool that doesn’t pill or shrink (just don’t throw it in the dryer). While the original polyester Flanders base layer is your best bet for high-perspiration activities, this wool version is great for when you want that warm feeling on your skin. For days when a jersey, gilet & arm-warmers just won’t cut it, but then again a full winter jacket is an overkill, the Flight Jacket Air comes into its own. The stretch-woven fabric blocks much of the wind, but enough can get through to quickly evaporate away sweat. A water-repellent finish is also ideal when roads are damp & there’s drizzle hanging in the air. Across the inside of the chest, sleeves & upper back you’ll find Polartec Alpha insulation. This works well with the partially windproof outer, providing warmth without any sacrifice to flexibility, weight & breathability. While aerodynamics isn’t a primary concern in winter, the Flight Jacket Air is still cut close to the body for speedy performance. This lets you slip through the air easier & saves some precious energy as you’re not being dragged back by flapping fabric. An easy-sliding YKK Vislon zipper makes it quick & simple to regulate airflow & temperature. 3 back pockets can be loaded up for a day on the saddle. & with reflective details, you’ll be visible when the daylight begins to wane. ...
