This book comprises 25 assessment papers each with 30 questions. Each paper contains a range of question types including sequences codes analogies grids & similarities. Within each group questions can be phrased in different ways & these tests introduce your child to many of the more frequently used styles. The simple layout is similar to that used in many exam papers so the papers will help children to become familiar with the question types & to feel more confident tackling them in a test situation. Verbal reasoning assesses a childs ability to see patterns & relationships at sentence word & letter level. The questions test comprehension vocabulary & spelling as well as the ability to identify patterns & apply logic to solve simple problems. There is a strong correlation between language & literacy skills & verbal reasoning so reading word games & spelling skills all contribute to success in verbal reasoning. The papers can be used as timed assessment tests or worked through a little at a time for regular verbal reasoning practice. Initially it is better to focus on accuracy then as your child gains confidence working at speed can be developed. If you wish to set whole tests allow 15 minutes for each paper. If your child completes the test in less time they should be encouraged to check their answers carefully. Use the pull-out answer booklet to mark completed papers. Fighting insurgents has always been one of the greatest challenges for regular armed forces during the 20th century. The war between the Germans & the French resistance also called FFI (Forces Franaises d Interieur) during World War II has remained a near-forgotten chapter in the history of these Small Wars. This is all the more astonishing as agencies like the British SOE (Special Operations Executive) & the American OSS (Office of Strategic Services) pumped a good amount of their resources into the support of the French resistance movement. By diversionary attacks on German forces in the occupied hinterland the Allies hoped the FFI could provide assistance in disrupting German supply lines as well as crumbling their morale. The mountain plateau of the Vercors south-west of Grenoble was the main stronghold of the FFI & in July 1944 some 8 000 German soldiers mounted an operation on the plateau & destroyed the insurgent groups there.
