Ruby Walsh is a phenomenon. The only jockey to have won all four of the home Grand Nationals Rubys racing life is the stuff of dreams. A charming much-loved sports personality throughout Ireland & Great Britain Ruby writes in detail for the first time about a career of remarkable success. The narrative moves at an impressive pace from his sport-enthused youth in County Kildare where he showed enormous talent from an early age to his incredible Grand National win at Aintree on Papillion in 2000 (at the age of twenty). It was Rubys first attempt on a horse trained by his father & achieved just after suffering the first really serious injury of his career. He has ridden over 1 400 winners to date including more than a thousand Irish victories & the Irish jump jockeys title on seven occasions. Among numerous racing triumphs Ruby rode a record-breaking seven winners over four days at the 2009 Cheltenham Festival. Ruby Walsh talks candidly & openly about the three key working relationships in his life
- with Paul Nicholls Willie Mullins & his father the legendary Ted Walsh
- as well as laying bare the dynamic relationship that exists between him & jockey Tony Mc Coy
- both great friends & professional rivals. With his intimate knowledge of the two greatest horses of our time Ruby also provides valuable insight into what it is to ride & (sometimes choose between) Kauto Star & Denman. Rubys fantastic story will attract a large spectrum of readers from those who have only a passing interest in the sport to those who follow all his races. It is a searingly honest & compelling autobiography charting the rise & rise of an immensely talented & popular force in the world of sport.

This is a fully revised & meticulously researched edition of Kiplings Complete Work" with an authoritative introduction from M.M. Kaye. When Kipling died in 1936 he was considered second to none as a poet. Years before Tennyson had described young Kipling as the only one with divine fire; but in fact Kipling died in relative anonymity his death overshadowed by that of George V & his reputation dented by a Britain that saw him as outdated & imperialist. On 23rd January King George was brought to lie in state in Westminster Hall the same day as Kiplings ashes were quietly consigned to Poets Corner. Kiplings poetry throughout the 756 pages of this edition captivates the reader as varied as it is beautiful bringing us characters such as Gunga Din Judy OGrady & the Colonels Lady who have become enshrined in literature. Very often the most powerful & evocative poems are the most personal & humane; together they form a compelling & deeply moving portrait of this poet." ...

Rugby Football was the first volume in the successful nine-part series on Sports & Pastimes that was written for the Isthmian Library between 1896 & 1901. It was also one of the first rugby books to be written after members of the Rugby Football Union became bitterly divided over a proposal to pay match expenses to players. During 1896 the R.F.U. split & two new rugby codes were born; the strictly amateur code of Rugby Union & the more professionally inclined code of Rugby League. Bertram Fletcher Robinson was a supporter of amateurism in sport & he felt that the time was ripe to chart the birth of Rugby Union as a distinct branch of Rugby Football. During the 1890s The Times newspaper described Fletcher Robinson as a household name within rugby circles. Robinson played as a Forward alongside many international players for both the Cambridge University Rugby Football Club 1st XV & the Combined Oxford & Cambridge University Rugby Football Club XV. According to his obituary in the Daily Express newspaper he would have been capped for England but for an accident. Hence he was well qualified to write an anecdotal account of the origin of Rugby Union. Rugby Football details the laws training techniques & tactics that were specific to Rugby Union during its nascent period. It also reviews the development of Rugby Union in British educational institutions & as a global international sport. Rugby Football
