This colourful flashcard set part of Ladybird's I'm Ready...range is perfect for supporting a child learning synthetic phonics. It closely follows the Government's Letters & Sounds document ensuring that your child will not be deviating from the way they learn synthetic phonics at school & also contains a helpful parent note & phonics glossary of all the key terms. There are 44 different phonemes (letter sounds) in the English language that can be blended together to make words. Ladybird's I'm Ready for Phonics flashcard pack features all the key phonemes in the order that children learn the sounds in Reception & Year 1 at school. Each individual card contains one phoneme. Let your child say the phoneme & then turn the card over to see an example of that sound in a word with a clear colourful illustration of that word. If your child has difficulty reading the word look at the sound buttons underneath. These show how many different sounds make up that word & will help your child to blend them together. Some phonemes can however be spelt in different ways. For example /c/ /k/ & /ck/ are different graphemes (the written representation or spelling of phonemes) of the same letter sound. Examples of how they are used in words include: /cat/ /kite/ & /lock/. The most common graphemes are also included in the pack so that some sounds are taught more than once in different guises. With over 70 years' experience trust Ladybird to help build your child's reading confidence!
