This work takes us back to a time when the railways of Calderdale (West Yorkshire) carried top link express trains Saturday excursions packed with holidaymakers bound for Blackpool & the east coast & a seemingly endless procession of freight trains; when Heckmondwike Cleckheaton Ripponden Queensbury & Dewsburys market place were all served by the railway network & when Mytholmroyd Sowerby Bridge & Mirfield were important railway centres. The first chapter sets the scene by outlining the development & decline of Calderdales railways as well as the passenger & freight services operating over its tracks.
