The young men who flew with RAF Bomber Command in World War Two were a complex mixture of individuals but they all shared the gift of teamwork. A crew of seven may have comprised all non-commissioned men & some crews included commissioned officers but not always flying as pilots. The outstanding fact was that each man relied on every other member of his crew to return from each mission safely. This book contains ten intriguing reminiscences of bomber aircrew; some were pilots others navigators flight engineers bomb-aimers or gunners. They flew as both commissioned or NCO airmen.. Understandably a common problem was that of coping with fear. Many former aircrew hold that anyone who claims to have felt no fear on operations is either lying or has allowed the years to blank out that fear. But there are a few who do maintain that they never felt afraid. For the majority though handling fear was something to be worked out by the individual. Some hit the bottle others womanized to excess; others tightened the gut & bit the lip; or drew the curtain & focused upon the plotting table or the wireless set. The passing years may have silvered what hair remains dulled the eye that formerly registered on the merest speck; lent a quiver to the hand that once controlled the stick penciled in the track manipulated the tuning dial set the bombsight tapped the gauge or rotated the turret. & yet for all the attributes of age their irrepressible youthfulness shines through. ...

He took upon himself the responsibility to appease the creature by feeding livestock into the lake & vowed his family would forever be responsible for the safety of the town & that every Milmullen son would take the mantle of Mourner at the age of 16. This novel is set in the present day & nobody believes in monsters anymore. These days the town is somewhat embarrassed about its monster stories & to many the Milmullen family is a bit of a joke. Fear The Worst

The worst day of Tim Blake's life started out with him making breakfast for his seventeen-year-old daughter Sydney. Syd was staying with him while she worked a summer job - even if he wasn't entirely sure what her job at the Just Inn Time motel actually was - and Tim hoped this quality father-daughter time would somehow help her deal with his divorce. When she didn't arrive home at her usual time he thought she'd probably gone to the mall to hang with her friends. When she didn't answer her phone he began to worry. When she didn't come home at all he began to panic. And when the people at the motel said they had no Sydney Blake working there and never had he began to see his life going into freefall. If she hadn't been working at the motel every day what had she been doing? Something she
couldn't - or wouldn't - tell her own father about? To find his daughter Tim doesn't need to simply track her down - he needs to know who she really was and what could have made her step out of her own life without leaving a trace. Only one thing has him convinced the worst hasn't already happened: the fact that some very scary people seem just as eager as he is to find her. The question is: who's going to find her first?
