The Republic F-105 Thunderchief was the fastest & most successful strike fighter of the Cold War. Designed to deliver nuclear weapons at low altitude & then fight its way back to base by the early 1960s it was the primary weapon in the USAFs tactical strike arsenal. Thunderchief pilots in Europe the Far East & the USA stood on short-notice alert ready to take on the formidable defenses of their Communist Bloc targets. The F-105 was however to become a legend in a very different conflict. As direct American involvement in Vietnam increased F-105s were deployed
- initially as a deterrent but ever more as conventional attack fighters against insurgency in Laos & Vietnam. With the start of the bombing campaign against North Vietnam the Thunderchief became a vital element in attacks against some of the most heavily defended territory in modern history.

equiem per un campesino espanol" was first published under the title Mosen Millan in Coleccion Aquelarre Mexico 1953. The present text follows the first Spanish edition published by Destino Barcelona 1974 which bears a few minor variants mainly in paragraph structure. It has been reprinted a number of times & translated into many languages & is one of the most widely read Spanish texts in the 20th century. This edition is aimed primarily at sixth-formers & university undergraduates & the introduction & notes have been compiled in the light of recent socio-politial topic-based syllabuses & communication studies courses. The inclusion in the introduction of a substantial section on the now out-of-print " Contraataque" (1937) the wartime narrative which contains the germ of the post-war novel is intended to provide the student with a context for the study of the process in Senders writing inspired by the Civil War
- from explicit militant propaganda penned in the heat of battle to implicit poetic parable historical emotion recollected in the comparative tranquillity & distance of exile. It is hoped that such a juxtaposition will illuminate both the content & literary achievement of " Requiem"."
