Blackheath in the heart of the Black Country only came into existence in the 1830s as a variety of industries grew up in the area. Many of the people who lived here were quarrymen miners & nailmakers. Life was not glamorous here: abject poverty was almost universal & privation that is unknown & unimaginable today was commonplace. Despite or perhaps because of this a strong sense of community has existed here since earliest times. Anthony Pages new book draws on previously unpublished photographs from a variety of sources including family albums to chronicle Blackheaths streets people industry & events.
