Levisticum officinale is a low-maintenance perennial herb that looks superb in the back of a border, producing yellow flower umbels from June to August which will attract beneficial insects to your garden. It is also has many culinary uses, as Lovage roots, leaves, seeds & young stems can all be used in savoury dishes, whilst the stems can also be candied. Levisticum officinale has been said to be medicinally useful for coughs, colic & bronchitis, although the plant also contains an oil which can be an irritant. This hardy perennial is a brilliant addition to both herb or wildlife gardens, preferring a sunny or partially-shaded site.
