Young fronds unfurl in a bronze shade, turning shiny green as they open & and reach up to 70cm (28) tall. This fern will gradually form a small trunk, reaching around 30cm tall in 10 years. Although tropical in origin, Blechnum brasiliense is hardy enough to grow in most areas of the UK gardens, tolerating temperatures as low as -5C (23F) but will it will appreciate a sheltered spot & some protection in winter.
