This beautiful shrub is at its very best in late summer when it is festooned with dangling fruits the colour of strawberries & the size & shape of large cherries. At the same time, or sometimes a little earlier, dainty clusters of small white blooms hang from the branches. With evergreen foliage & cinnamon brown shredding bark, the Strawberry Tree has year-round interest. The fruits can be eaten raw, or made into jams & preserves. Arbutus unedo makes a lovely specimen shrub for a sheltered position. When mature it is completely hardy but young plants may appreciate some winter protection. Height & spread: 8m (25').
