Peanuts are an ideal food source & will appeal to a wide range of wild birds throughout the year due to their high content of natural oils, protein, essential vitamins & minerals. Although not a naturally occurring foodstuff for our native birds most species will readily accept them when offered & they are ideal to help wild birds through harsh or demanding times. The whole peanuts should ideally be fed from a peanut feeder, but they can be fed from bird tables & the ground, however, during the breeding season we recommend only feeding the split or broken peanuts to reduce the risk of a choking hazard for hatchlings & young birds. Peanuts can be contaminated by a fungus which produces a poison known as aflatoxin which is harmful to birds. Twootz.com select only peanuts which fall below the maximum permitted levels in law for aflatoxin to ensure the safety of wild birds.
