The Skid Pan training uses only the latest techniques & skills as used from Motorsport instructors & Police Driving. You will drive a normal unmodified family car under the instruction of a fully experienced championship winning race or rally driver. The cars are fitted with special low grip tyres to be driven on a clean water skid pan area, which has been proven to be the most realistic method of learning skid control techniques. Imagine finding yourself in a skid & losing control of your vehicle at 30mph or even at 70mph! This is your chance to LEARN real (potentially lifesaving) skills to help you handle difficult or unexpected slippery conditions in normal road driving. The full day course consists of half a day of Skid pan & a half day on the road with a DSA Approved Instructor learning Advanced Road Skills. This popular course combines the two important skill areas of skid control & hazard avoidance into one day. By the end of it, your confidence & abilities behind the wheel will have moved on to a new level! The standard course format uses the participant's car for the on road part of the training, but a car can be provided if required. Your course will include.... Vehicle Safety Checks: Your instuctor will first show you how to carry out some vehicle checks to ensure the car is roadworthy & also ask to see your insurance & other relevant documents along with your drivers license. Initial Driver Assessment: The course will begin with you driving for a few minutes whilst the instructor makes a few notes to help him/ her determine where you need the most training. This will help your instructor structure the course to suit you & also focus on areas & driving situations that you may have problems with. Defensive Driver Training: During this part of the training your instructor will help you develop your driving in the areas highlighted from the initial assessment. Fuel Saving Techniques: You will also be encouraged to plan further ahead to avoid unnecessary gear changing, braking & hard acceleration. In addition to making your journey safer this technique will also save you money on your fuel bills.
