Once you have arrived at the airfield, you will be introduced to your instructor and the Helicopter. Your helicopter lessons will then begin, with a briefing on safety, what the various controls do and what route you will be flying in the helicopter. Next you will board the helicopter and ready yourself to take to the skies and embark on your duration of flight. Your instructor will fire up the engine and get the rotor blades churning for lift-off. Within minutes you will be trying your hand at the controls. As part of the helicopter lesson, you may have the opportunity to fly over local places of interest such as the Humber Bridge in Sheffield, Ladybower Reservoir and Lincoln Cathedral or even perhaps be given the chance to find your own house from a few thousand feet high. This is a real chance to fly about under your instructor's guidance and get a taste of life as a helicopter pilot!
If you've ever wondered what it's like to fly a helicopter then a trial lesson is just the thing you need. It offers an ideal introduction into helicopter flying. Upon arrival at the airport, you will receive a short classroom briefing on the different techniques involved before stepping out to the Robinson (R44) helicopter.
The R44 is quite a large helicopter with four seats. There will be you and your professional pilot instructor sat in the front and two seats in the back. (You will be able to bring along two spectators to sit in the back throughout your flight at no extra cost). Once you're comfortable to take to the controls after your briefing on the techniques involved, it's over to you to show the instructor what you have learned during your thirty minute flying lesson.
