On this Downton Abbey Tour, you will explore the film locations used in the hit TV series including Downton Village, Downton Place and the home of the Dowager Countess.
The tour will showcase some of the wonderful scenery, villages and historic properties that have been used in the show. It will also give you an insight into the making of the show as well as the wonderful history of the places visited throughout the tour.
Lasting nine hours, the morning will see you visit Downton Village, Kirkbymoorside, Matthew & Ediths Church and The Swan Inn. You will then have lunch at Downton Place before visiting Dower House in the afternoon.
Departing from central London by luxury mini coach, the journey will take approximately 90 minutes to reach the heart of rural Oxfordshire where several villages have been used in the world of Downton Abbey.
As you visit Downton Abbey, you will get a guided tour of familiar sites such as Downton hospital, the village pub, the home of Matthew Crawley and the local church. A short comfort break will be taken here, before taking a short stop at Kirkbymoorside which was used as the pretty setting for the pub where Bates works when he leaves Downton Abbey. You will also get to see the church that Matthew and Edith visit in Series 1 (Episode 3) plus a visit to the pub where Branson and Lady Sybil elope in Series 2.
The next stop will be at the beautiful grounds that were used as the setting of Downton Place in series 3. Here lunch can be taken and you will be able to explore the 16th century house and grounds.
Finally, the day will finish with a guided tour of the property used as the home of the Dowager Countess and you can enjoy tea in the 'Downton Room' where many of the scenes featuring Maggie Smith take place.
