A British native, the Guelder Rose is a deciduous shrub with maple-like green leaves & pretty white lacecap flowers in May & June. The flowers are attractive to pollinating insects & are followed in the autumn by masses of glossy red berries, which are enjoyed by birds. In addition, the leaves take on fantastic red & violet shades in autumn which compliment the fruits. A lovely addition to mixed wildlife hedges, Viburnum opulus can also be used effectively to create an informal hedge or screen with multiple seasons of interest.
