Fothergilla major is at its most striking in autumn, when its broadly rounded leaves turn to glowing shades of fiery red & orange. From late spring this deciduous shrub is adorned with fragrant, white bottlebrush flowers, & its superb garden performance has earned it an RHS AGM. Commonly known as the Mountain Witch Alder, this is a slow-growing shrub that enjoys rich & leafy ericaceous soil in acid borders, or at the edge of woodland plantings. It is tolerant of light shade, but its colours are most vibrant in a sunny spot.
