One of the darkest flowered of all clematis is Clematis ' Rasputin' which has deep violet blooms with a velvety appearance. They have furrowed sepals & undulating margins, creating unusual flowers which are borne in profusion from July to September. A position in light shade produces the very darkest colour of blooms & these team beautifully with paler flowering varieties of Clematis or climbing Roses.
