Bright ruby-garnet in colour with an intense nose, perfumes of dark fruit & a touch of cloves with a savoury, herbal note. On the palate it is full-bodied yet elegant, with plenty of robust but ripe tannins supporting the dark, dried plum & autumn compote fruit character & balancing the acidity. Long & fine, with perfumes of roses & violets on the finish. The long, snowy winter resulted in delayed budding, while the cool spring ensured a late growing season. Rainfall during spring & summer was more frequent than average, especially in March, May & June. The resulting generous water reserves led to continuous plant growth, giving generous canopies & grass. Hail in spring hit the Massolino vineyards in Serralunga d' Alba, resulting in a much lower crop than usual. ' Fortunately, the remaining grapes ripened well, & in fact were picked earlier than in other zones due to the low crops the plants were carrying, ' comments Franco Massolino.
