Wonderfully aromatic. Lovely perfume with some vanilla, violets & lavender. Rich & plummy on the palate, showing dark chocolate, hints of mocha & pepper, underscored by polished tannins. Ready to drink, ideally a year or so after bottling. Develops favourably in bottle for a number of years. An excellent match with red meats & game dishes, as well as a varied cheese platter. Quinta do Ataide, the largest of the Symington family's three Vilarica Valley vineyards in the Douro Superior with 82 hectares (203 acres) under vine. Approx. one quarter is planted with Touriga Nacional. The vineyard was planted in the late 1970s, early 1980s & the vines have now reached an ideal state of maturity. 100% Touriga Nacional. The most emblematic of Portugal's grape varieties, it is particularly well suited to the hot & dry conditions of the Vilarica Valley. Touriga Nacional lends itself to producing single varietal wines, owing to its rich aromatic range, generous fruit, & the powerful tannins that underscore its longevity.
