The colour is a deep, vibrant crimson. Wild raspberry, blackberry & black pepper aromas predominate. Savoury, spicy notes are also prominent along with some meaty overtones. The Viognier has added a lifted aromatic quality & softened the tannins, making the wine more supple & appealing. Multi-layered complexity is the aim. Powerful but balanced, ripe tannins give the wine great structure. Oak ageing plays a minor part & the wine lives on its fruit. Combined with the good acidity, these characteristics mean excellent ageing potential. Development of mineral, earthy & tarry characters are likely during bottle ageing resulting in a wine that is able to be drunk in its youth but will age 5-7 years + with good cellaring conditions.
