Have you ever tried to spend a day without looking at a clock or checking your watch? It's almost impossible. Time rules our lives, but how much do we understand about it? & is it possible to retrain our brains & improve our relationship with it? Drawing on the latest research from the fields of psychology, neuroscience & biology, & using original research on the way memory shapes our understanding of time, the acclaimed writer & broadcaster Claudia Hammond delves into the mysteries of time perception. Along the way, Claudia introduces us to an extraordinary array of characters willing to go to great lengths in the interests of research, such as the French speleologist Michel, who spends two months in an ice cave in complete darkness. We meet one group of volunteers who steer themselves towards the edge of a stairwell, blindfolded, & another who are strapped into a harness & dropped off the edge of tower block. Time Warped shows us how to manage our time more efficiently, speed time up & slow it down at will, plan for the future with more accuracy &, ultimately, use the warping of time to our own advantage. ...

Product Description

It's 1939, & three ten-year-old girls meet on a station platform.

Imogen, Rita & Debby all missed the original evacuation & now the authorities are finding it difficult to place them.

When Auntie & her niece, Jill, who run the Canary & Linnet Public House, offer to take them in, the billeting officer is greatly relieved.

The countryside is heaven to the three little townies, especially after they meet Woody & Josh, also evacuees. They find that by climbing to the top of the biggest tree in the beech wood they have a perfect bird s-eye view of the nearest RAF station & are able to watch the comings & goings of the young fighter pilots as the Battle of Britain rages.

Then they find an injured flier & the war becomes a stark reality.

As they grow up, love & rivalry enter their lives &, twenty years on, when the girls decide on a reunion, many surprises come to light...
