Gin, distinctive for its combination of juniper berries & botanicals such as coriander & angelica, continues to be a main player in the modern cocktail bar, in both classic & modern guises.

The recent growth in micro-distilleries & fashionable gin bars has made a significant impact on its profile as a drink with a contemporary vibe. There is even a World Gin Day, the second Saturday in June, an event that sees festivals, cocktail hours, street parties & tastings all over the world.

The Bartender's Guide to Gin starts with a thorough guide to equipment & approaches, followed by a heady selection of 100 gin-based recipes. These include old favourites such as Gin Sling & Alabama Slammer, exotic concoctions such as Magnolia Blossom & Bloodhound, & modern recipes celebrating new trends & ingredients, such as Mango & Black Pepper Cocktail & Gin & Matcha Green Tea Cocktail.

Selected pages also offer useful practical information about the colourful history of gin, from the early Genever gins to the use of gin for medicinal purposes.

In California in the early 1950s, the Fender company introduced the world's first electric bass guitar. They couldn't have known it then, but their Precision Bass started a revolution in the sound of popular music. This book explains exactly how. The two-guitars-bass-&-drums lineup that would define pop music found its heart in the late 1950s with the introduction of Fender's bass. In the coming decades, the bass guitar provided the solid foundation upon which most modern music was built. The bass guitar is one of the most significant new musical instruments to have appeared in the 20th century, & " The Bass Book" is the first to study its complete & fascinating story, with the full story of the most important bass players & bass makers. This revamped & revised second edition of " The Bass Book" brings the story right up to date. Many original interviews with makers of bass guitars from the past & present illuminate the book, with the popular establishment of the bass during the 1960s & 1970s examined in detail along with more recent variations of this diverse instrument. There are also original interviews with players, including Paul Mc Cartney. Dozens of unusual, desirable, & rarely-seen basses are presented in specially commissioned studio-quality photographs, while a reference directory provides a wealth of information on 16 key makers. There has never been anything quite like " The Bass Book". It has virtually everything you want to know about the story of the bass guitar in one stylish, readable volume. ...

The Basic Basics Diabetes Cookbook

Diabetes is now unfortunately a common health problem. About 1 million people in the UK alone have been diagnosed as sufferers - that's about 3 in every 100 people. It is believed this figure may double in six years. There are estimates that as many as a further 1 million may have diabetes but have not been diagnosed. Of those diagnosed, about 95 per cent are suffering from Type 2 diabetes, this is non-insulin dependent diabetes. Those most at risk are the middle-aged and elderly but increasingly we are seeing diabetes affecting the young. One of the primary causes of Type 2 diabetes is being overweight but happily this form of diabetes is controlled simply by diet and exercise. So understanding nutrition and diet is essential to maintaining your health as a non-insulin dependent
diabetes sufferer. Fortunately these days there are no special foods recommended, you should quite simply follow the kind of healthy diet that everyone should be eating, namely at least five portions of food and vegetables everyday and cutting back on convenience foods which are high in fat, sugar and salt - all of which are particularly unsuitable for those with diabetes.
