Please note this book contains content of an adult nature. These are the pages of my confessions... How often did I see young ladies who cried out loudly in public against the immorality & the brutality of corporal punishments, & who still felt beneath their skirts the warmth of a recent little whipping which they received not without pleasure. This book has 198 pages & is 17.5cm x 10.5cm x 1.4cm ...

Charles I's authoritative & intolerant rule as monarch, & the unpopular Ship Money tax which he initiated, were instrumental in creating the most splendid & controversial warship in English history. She was the grandest venture hitherto created, remarkable for her size, beauty & heavy armament. Even her name, the Sovereign of the Seas, suggested pride & pomp. Designed & built by Phineas Pett, & ably assisted by his son Peter as Master Builder, her keel was laid in December 1635 at Woolwich Royal Dockyard. She was safely launched in October 1637. Her graceful lines are a delight to any ship modeller. Her description & history are intriguing. Very little is known about her. Many authors have praised & applauded her. She remains an enigma
- a puzzle for subsequent historians. Each successive researcher"es the facts previously published. The author, James H. Sephton, has been engrossed for many years in the self appointed task of researching & compiling a definitive history. Original paintings, drawings & models are elucidated. Her size in term of tonnage, a description of her decorative carvings & rigging is described. Her history in the various actions during the Dutch Wars is discussed. There are accompanying plates, drawings, maps, lists & tables. This present study, therefore, contains much hitherto unpublished material. It is preserved as a record for posterity. It is also a dedication to the efforts of naval historians past, present & future.

Sovay

Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution and its impact on British politics, this action-driven novel shows once again that Celia Rees is one of our very best writers for teenage readers. Wild and beautiful, spoilt and wilful, Sovay finds that her cosseted life in rural England has not prepared her for life as a highway robber, for defending the honor of her family or for trying to save herself from corruption and evil. As Sovay becomes more and more embroiled in adventures she could scarcely have imagined, a story of dark intrigue, thwarted passions and sinister intentions is revealed to her. Will she be able to survive, and if she does so, at what cost?
