When Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953, many proclaimed the star of a new Elizabethan Age. Few had any inkling, however, of the stupendous changes that would occur over the next 50 years, both in Britain & around the world. A. N. Wilson takes the reader on an exhilarating journey through post-war Britain. This book propels the reader from post-war austerity, to the end of the British Empire & the emergence of America as a superpower, to the multicultural Britain of today. With Our Times, Wilson triumphantly concludes the acclaimed trilogy that opened with the Victorians & was followed by After the Victorians. Our Times makes compelling reading for anyone interested in the forces that have shaped our world. This book has 484 pages & is 23.4cm x 15.9cm x 3.1cm ...

Aldergrove can trace its history back to 1918 when it was first used for the testing of Handley Page V/1500s built by Harland & Wolff.

Closed not long after but retained by the RAF, the airfield was used occasionally before expansion began in 1925. The airfield was used continually between the wars supporting several bomber squadrons before becoming an Armament Training Station in 1936.

Anti-submarine patrols were flown from Aldergrove during the early years of the Second World War, mainly with the Anson. Blenheims & Hurricanes provided both maritime & air defence for Ulster & Belfast.

The Hudson was a common sight from 1941 & was followed by the Beaufighter. Together the aircraft provided an air defence & a coastal strike capability.
