Making no pretence to be factually accurate, Ned Kelly is at least an engaging action film with its heart in the right place. You don't need to be a student of Australian history to know that a picture detailing the life of the notorious folk hero & outlaw is not going to be a light-hearted romp through the outback. Injustice, persecution & unlawful imprisonment are the meat of his story, all presented here with not too much of a rose-tinted perspective amid generous doses of obligatory action. Rebellious teenager Ned Kelly (Heath Ledger) is wrongfully imprisoned for stealing a horse &, when he returns to the bosom of his large Irish family, finds that the police won't let him go straight. After being accused of a crime he didn't commit, Kelly is left with no option but to go on the run. Accompanied by his gang (among them Orlando Bloom) he robs banks to survive & also to try & get the money together to free his family from prison. There is some considerable romanticising of the story & the man himself, due in part to Ledger's affable Robin Hood-esque working-class hero portrayal. Bloom is wide-eyed & daring as Kelly's main man, & Naomi Watts as his married mistress has the thankless task of breaking up some great action sequences to play the unnecessary love interest ...

Zara collects phobias the way other high school girls collect Facebook friends. It's little wonder, since she's had a fairly rough life. Her father left when she was a baby, her stepfather just died & her mother's almost given up
- in fact, she's sent her to live with her grandmother in cold & sleepy Maine to 'keep Zara safe'. Zara doesn't think she's in danger; she thinks her mother just can't cope. Zara's wrong. The man she sees everywhere
- the tall, creepy guy who points at her from the side of the road
- is not a figment of her imagination. He's a pixie. But not the cute, sweet kind with little wings. Maine's got a whole assortment of unbelievable creatures. & they seem to need something
- something from Zara...

Necropolis London And Its Dead

London is a city literally built upon its dead: the Houses of Parliament sit on the edge of a former plague pit, and subway tunnels were driven through forgotten catacombs thick with bones. Utilizing archaeology, anthropology, anecdote, and history, this gloriously macabre tour explores the presence of death in Londoners' lives and the changes in burial rites through two millennia of English history. The city's greatest disasters?including the Great Fire and the Black Plague?are analyzed in regards to their massive impacts on the living and the dead, while the resting places of several thousand Londoners are highlighted as a means of examining population growth and city development. Implicitly entwined with the passing of generations is the transformation of an entire population;
death effects how and where future generations live. From Roman burial ceremonies to the more recent passing of Princess Diana, this unique history leaves no headstone unturned.
