Books Modern Romance Books Everyone around Iris Kelly is in love. & she's happy for all of them, truly. So what if she misses her friends & family, who are busy with their perfectly paired partners. At least she has her br&-new career writing romance novels (the irony), right? Wrong. She is completely out of ideas after having spent all of her romantic energy on her debut. Perfectly happy to ignore her problems as usual, Iris goes to a Portland bar. But a night of dancing with a sexy stranger named Stefania turns into the worst one-night stand Iris has had in her life (vomit & crying are regretfully involved). To get her mind off everything, Iris tries out for a local play only to come face-to-face with Stefania-or, Stevie, her real name. When Stevie desperately asks Iris to play along as her girlfriend, Iris is shocked but goes along with it in a bid to get her creative juices flowing. As the two women play the part of a couple, they turn into a constant sta... ...

Collins Gem Babies Names is number one in the best-selling stakes. Meet its Irish cousin! This detailed guide to over 2000 of the most popular Irish first names is the ideal gift for anyone wishing to choose an Irish name for their child, or is interested in finding out a bit more about their own name. This Collins Gem is being reissued in paperback. The stylish new cover style & new text design will enliven this & other best-selling Gems. Irish names are spreading across the world. As well as being more common in Irel&, they now feature in most English-speaking countries of the world. The reason for this spread is not hard to find. Massive emigration, especially during the 19th century famines, left many people of Irish descent in Britain, the USA, Canada & Australia. These emigrants often had to give up the Irish language in favour of English, but they took their names with them, gave them to their children & spread them in the new countries. Indeed some, such as Brian, are now so well-established that they are no longer considered Irish. Others have developed strong associations with their new countries, so that Oscar is sometimes thought of as Scandinavian, Barry & Sheila are associated with Australia, & for most people Darren is American. What then is an Irish name? In this book a very broad view is taken, with special attention paid to what has happened to names after they left Irel&. The names come from Gaelic (and are given in Gaelic & in an anglicised form), from translations from Irish forms of non-Irish names & from Irish surnames & words. Over 2000 names included. Features names derived from the Irish language, anglicized versions of Irish names, & Irish names used in the USA & Australia. Meaning, origin & pronunciation guide given for each name. This edition has been redesigned in the new Gem style both internally & with a new cover design ...

One aspect of Irish railway history which has received scant attention over the years is that of the carriages which ran on the country's broad gauge tracks. Desmond Coakham was one of the few who, in the 1950s & 1960s, photographed what the locomotive was pulling. Drawing on his own extensive collection & on the work of others, he has produced a superb pictorial introduction to the subject. Starting with survivors from as early as the 1840s & 1850s, he describes & illustrates a wide range of carriages, vehicles representing virtually every Irish railway company, up to the present day. The book will fascinate all those interested in the development of the railway carriage over the decades. It will also be a wonderful reference source for railway modellers as well as opening a window on a neglected but intriguing aspect of the railway history of these islands. ...
