Waverley is Scotland’s largest railway station & covering an area of 25 acres it is the second largest mainline station in the UK after Waterloo.

Unusually for such an important destination it is both a terminus & a through station.

In the 1840s, three railway companies built stations at the east end of what had been the Nor Loch – North Bridge, General & Canal Street – & these became known collectively as Waverley from around 1854.

Product Description

Disruption, delays, travel chaos, fierce debate & financial woe have been regular newspaper headlines since Edinburgh announced plans to bring back trams.

Edinburgh’s first tramway network was a horse-drawn service from Haymarket to Bernard Street, opened in 1871. In January 1888, a cable system came into operation.

With amalgamations with the electric Leith system & a takeover by Edinburgh Corporation, the trams were all electrified in 1923.
