Product Description

Set in Southend during the rock n roll years of the 1950s, this is a wonderfully written saga about an indomitable young girl called Scarlett
- & her journey to love & happiness. When Scarlett Smith's mother dies of a heart attack on Coronation day, Scarlett & her father have to move out of their country pub to a seafront pub in South end. There Scarlett meets Jonathan Blane, son of the landlord. They enjoy an innocent romance, but when Jonathan's father makes a pass at Scarlett & she reacts violently, the Smiths are once again turned out. While Jonathan is away on national service, 17-year-old Scarlett misses him terribly, but learns to cope through her love of rock 'n' roll dancing. After being seduced by singer Ricky Harrington, Scarlett becomes pregnant & soon after the adulterous Ricky abandons Scarlett. It seems all hope for Jonathan & Scarlett's happiness together is lost, would they ever be able to find the happiness they deserve?
