Now, after decades of primarily kiddie fare, it applies once more to comics as the join movies, music & mainstream print as a true entertainment medium. No longer the fanboy niche they had steered themsleves into, whether you call them comics, graphic novels, manga, fumetti or bande dessinees, comic art has blossomed & as you will see from book it embraces all styles in its visual storytelling. Noir, expressionism, abstraction, retro, postimpressionism, even primitivism & cubism are eagerly embraced. Just as television found its rightful place as radio with pictures following early resistance from Luddite elitists, so comics have risen above the scornful notion that stories don't need visuals &, as a medium, embrace the fullspectrum of entertainment. But comics have a distinct advantage that radio, TV & film could never lay claim to; they promote literacy by making reading fun.
