This British, single-engine aircraft with a dural half-shell construction was first flown as a prototype in 1955. The RAF ordered a handful of copies of the Folland Gnat T.1, using it mainly for training & aerobatic flights. India became the main recipient of the aircraft, entering Indian service in 1958. By 1977, the serial production of a modernized version of the aircraft were in full production, known as the Ajeet.
