This single refill hogshead was filled in 1982, shortly before the site was closed and sold to developers. It rested for nearly four decades in Gordon & Macphail’s warehouses before emerging as an elegant, aromatic whisky packed with tropical fruit. The nose shows grapefruit, caramel and baked apples while the palate offers pineapple, passionfruit and a herbal side with mint and freshly cut grass.

- One of Scotland’s great lost distilleries, new releases of St Magdalene are increasingly rare.
