Port Dundas 30 Year Old Directors Cut Lowland single grain Scotch whisky bottle by Douglas Laing. From a singlerefill hogshead cask 8416. Distilled February 1982 & bottled April 2012. 207 bottles. Port Dundas Port Dundas Distillery was established by Daniel Mc Farlane in 1811 in the Port Dundas area of Glasgow. The area developed rapidly into an industrial complex which included three distilleries all named Port Dundas. The first was established in 1811, the second in 1813 & the third operated for just a short period during the late 1830s. In 1845 both operating distilleries were producing grain spirit & in that year both installed Coffey stills. In 1877 they amalgamated & by 1885 Port Dundas Distillery had developed into the largest distillery in the world & was processing corn & barley & rye, & importing grain from America. In 1886 the distillery was operating with two malt kilns & five grain kilns, thirty-five washbacks, three Coffey stills & five pot stills. In 2010 port Dundas Distillery closed & demolition began shortly thereafter. Nose: Warmly spiced with vanilla & grist + an old fashioned gent’s hairdressing character. Palate: Carries a strawberry/pineapple chewy toffee style + coffee &d more spicy grist. Finish: Camphor style cough drops with macerated fruits & chocolate – just too short! ...
