An exceptional 37 year old Highland Park expression matured in refill-casks & released Spring 2010. The packaging expresses Orkneys Nordic heritage featuring a wood carving of the Viking Oseberg ship. Highland Park Highland Park Distillery is the most northerly malt whisky distillery in Scotland & the closest Scottish distillery to the Arctic Circle. Highland Park was established in 1798 & is one of the few Scottish distilleries which continues to malt barley on its own traditional malting floors & to use locally cut peat from Hobbister Moor in its malt kiln. The distillery visitor centre welcomes visitors & offers distillery tours. Nose: Complex aromatic layers emerge as this whisky reveals itself. Vanilla & toffee sweetness are evident; enticing floral notes & hints of heather are followed by dried citrus fruits, nutmeg & coconut. Palate: The assertive citrus notes are balanced by the layers of caramel, cinnamon & soft floral flavours. The slight oak tones are first balanced, then swept aside by the late arrival of classic Highland Park spicy smokiness.
