Glenesk 1984 vintage matured in refill sherry hogsheads. Bottled 2008 by Gordon & Mac Phail for the Connoisseurs Choice series. Rare Highland single malt Scotch whisky. Glenesk Glenesk Distillery was constructed from a former flax bleaching works in 1897 by James Ingles a Dundee wine merchant. Glenesk Distillery was situated on a mill lade beside the River Esk in Scotland’s Highland whisky region & originally named Highland Esk Distillery. Produced malt whisky up until 1938 when converted to produce grain whisky with the installation of Coffey stills & renamed Montrose Distillery. Became Hillside in 1964 when the Coffey stills were removed & pot stills installed once again. Operating with four stills & the name Glenesk Distillery in 1980 but then closed in 1985 & was demolished in 1996. Glenesk Distillery is now a lost Scottish Highland whisky distillery. Aromatic with peppery & earthy aromas. Traces of dried fruits with smoky (bonfire embers) elements. A little toffee sweetness emerges. Sweet flavours with floral hints. Some charred oak notes with the sherry in fluence again present.
