Specially picked out by our chums at independent bottlers Douglas Laing a Caol Ila matured on Islay throughout its 27 years in a sherry hogshead fits the bill perfectly.
Bottled at cask strength and without any nonsense. Just 120 bottles are available and each individually numbered. The label features a fitting tribute to this remarkable distillery which has nestled in the Sound of Islay since 1846.
Caol Ila
Caol Ila Distillery on the Isle of Islay is famous for the stunning view from the still house windows looking out across the Sound of Islay and for the objects which have passed by including
naval battleships, smugglers in dinghies, submarines and whales. Caol Ila Distillery was established in 1846 by Hector Henderson on a sheltered but rocky stretch of coast on north east Islay. Now the largest malt whisky distillery on Islay and visitors are welcomed at the distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available. Caol Ila Distillery is a participant in Feis Ile, the annual Islay Festival of Malt and Music. Nose: Vibrant sweet sherry, brimming with citrus fruits, barley, peat smoke, polish and a feint note of emergency room. Palate: Full bodied - heavily sweet sherry, mandarin marmalade fruit explosion leading to tangy lemon peel, barley sugar with a soft malty coating of oil and a pinch of sea salt. Finish: Long, warm and satisfying, more mandarins,
lingering sherry, spices and smoke. Overall incredibly well balanced.
