The Atlantic series Staunton chess pieces take on a contemporary modern feel with this black & natural lacquered version. All of the pieces are turned from high grade boxwood, the black pieces are finished in a black lacquer that has been polished to a deep shine. In order to preserve a continuity within the set the white pieces are also gloss lacquered with a polished clear coat. These fine chess pieces are double weighted & generously felted on their bases. The gloss lacquering doesn't take away any of the fine detailing of the pieces & the extremes in tone gives excellent contrast on the chess board. The knight is robust enough to endure many years in the battle field while retaining some of his goofy character & presence.
