Menetou-Salon is a small appellation located in the east of the Loire valley next to Sancerre. Domaine Fourniere is a small, family-owned domaine with 150 acres of vineyards spread through the Sancerre, Pouilly-Fume & Menetou-Salon appellations. An inviting bouquet of citrus & herbal notes gives way to more seductive aromas of lychee, pear & even liquorice once air has mingled in. On the palate it is mouth-wateringly zesty, with fresh flavours of gooseberry & pineapple followed by some steely minerality on the finish. A very pure Loire sauvignon blanc, delightful in every way. This wine is drinking beautifully now, & will stay at its peak for another year of so. With so many aromas & flavours, classic food pairings such as goat's cheese & lemony fish are safe bets, but exotic dishes like Vietnamese green papaya salad are also fantastic.
