Mas Amiel is the largest & most important producer in Maury. Located in the heart of Cahar country, just below the ruined castle of Queribus, it was founded in 1816 when Raymond Amiel won the deeds from the Bishop of Perignas in a game of cards. This deeply-coloured sweet wine has enticing aromatics of ripe blackberry & blackcurrant fruit with some savoury tar & plum notes. In the mouth, it is ripe, sweet & quite structured with lovely plum & blackberry fruit. Nice definition here, & it's not too sweet, with a spicy, savoury edge. Balance is the key.
