The roots of Bodega Valdemar date back to 1889. Their wines have for a long time been a reference point for quality & innovation in this world-famous region, & they have pioneered many techniques that are now standard practices in Rioja winemaking. A deep, dark wine with aromas of wild berries, fresh plums & sour cherries, knitted with some sweet vanillary oak & a touch of exotic spice. On the palate it is quite fleshy, with good acidity running through its ripe fruit profile. Nicely balanced with gentle tannins & a long, clean finish that highlights the berry flavours. With 6 months of ageing in a mixture of French & American oak, followed by a further year maturing in the bottle before being released, this wine is drinking well now, & makes a great partner for a range of foods, particularly lamb stew & roast chicken.
