It is the height of the Mexican Revolution and a gang of bandits led by the charismatic El Chuncho (a mesmerising Gian Maria Volonte - A Fistful Of Dollars; For A Few Dollars More) are stealing weapons and selling them on to rebel General Elias. It is seen as much a western as an allegory on America's interventionist politics. Scripted in 1967 by Oscar nominee Franco Solinas (The Battle Of Algiers) with a refreshingly leftist point of view the film wears its Yankee go home! message proudly on its sleeve and is ever more relevant
