COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY Are you the sort of person who others feel comfortable talking to & discussing their problems? Maybe you have to cope with stress or depression or some other problem in yourself or family & friends? If you find that you have been in such situations & been able to analyse & cope with the issues&44; perhaps counselling & psychotherapy could be right for your personality & aptitude. Counselling is very much a talking & listening therapy & if you have a rounded&44; balanced outlook & experience of life together with a genuine interest in people & their problems&44; you will probably make a good counsellor. Counsellors & psychotherapists often help people suffering from a variety of psychological disorders including depression&44; eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia or some form of addiction. The counselling & psychotherapy course covers the basic principles of the disciplines & then moves on to consider particular techniques & tools that the therapist can use with clients. Specific consideration is given to some of the more popular therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)&44; Person-Centred Therapy & Gestalt & Dialectical Behaviour Therapy & many others. The student is also encouraged to look at the causes of condition such as family background&44; abuse&44; alcoholism etc. Promising students might also get the chance of some &226;&128;&152;hands-on&226;&128;&153; during the counselling & psychotherapy course with the chance to do voluntary work relating to the subject area. By the end of the course students will have developed a sound understanding of the key skills & tools needed to work with clients&44; & the importance of values & ethics. Students of this course will be awarded 30 points towards accreditation with the National Counselling Society. This is a really "big deal" for anyone committed to a career within the profession&44; as NCS accreditation is required by all practising Counsellors. This is UNIQUE to students of The Distance Education Academy.
